Upgrades Coming to Katherine Kearney Dog Park in Mequon
Katherine Kearney Dog Park in Mequon is expanding its parking lot and adding native landscaping and green infrastructure
Katherine Kearney Dog Park, a favorite destination for local families and their four-legged friends, is getting a major upgrade.
The City of Mequon has kicked off a project that will expand the current parking lot and add green infrastructure to make the park even more accessible and environmentally friendly.
Crews from the Mequon Building & Grounds Division and the Mequon Highway Division began the first phase of the project with selective tree removal along Zedler Lane and just east of the existing parking lot. While the removal included dead ash, slippery elm, popple, spruce, buckthorn, and honeysuckle, the end goal is a net gain for nature.
The expanded lot will make visits more convenient for families by easing traffic flow and adding two separate entrances. And in place of the removed trees, visitors can look forward to a new bio-retention basin surrounded by native landscaping, stormwater-friendly trees, and a diverse mix of plantings designed to support pollinators and local wildlife.
These improvements aim to balance usability with sustainability—adding parking and accessibility while improving the long-term health of the surrounding environment.
Stay tuned for updates, and consider planning a future visit to see these changes in action as the seasons change.
